Stopping The Pain Of A Toothache

Everyone out there at some point in time, will experience the pain of a toothache. Toothaches are very excruciating, some of the worst pain you will ever feel in your life.

Even though you may have had dental work in the past and follow proper hygiene, toothaches can happen at anytime. Although it can be very painful, there are ways to get relief through natural herbal remedies or pharmaceuticals.

If you plan to use herbs, you should use them in tincture form, as the alcohol content will disinfect the area, and help to reduce the inflammation and kill the infection. Once you have the tincture, you should use roughly a teaspoon of it and gently rinse your mouth out. Once you have help it in your mouth a minute or so, you should either swallow it or spit it out. Tinctures are natural remedies that use herbs and alcohol to massage the affected area and stop the pain by numbing the nerves of the tooth that is causing you so much pain.

The best way to deal with toothache is to put out the fire. If you manage to put the fire out, the pain will follow. Even though the pain may go away, the problem will still be there until you go to the dentist and get it treated. Although the dentist is the preferred way to go, you may have to wait on an appointment, or the toothache may occur on a weekend or a time when the dentist isn’t available.

Your best advice is to seek dental care ASAP, as the infection can always return at any given time. If you don’t get problems fixed as soon as you can, they can spread and cause you more problems with your teeth. Cavities will need to be filled, while the rotten or dying teeth will need to be extracted. If caught in time, the dentist can normally save the tooth via root canal.

The most common way to stop the pain of a toothache is by using a pharmaceutical such as Ambesol. With these types of toothache relief products, you simply rub the ointment on the affected area and it will kill the pain. These products work quickly, although they may not be able to help if the infection has spread or has gotten so bad that the tooth is literally dying.

Another way to stop the pain is to use Tylenol or aspirin. If you are going this route, you should use tablets that dissolve. Simply take the tablet and put it in your mouth, then use your tongue to hold it against your tooth. The aspirin or Tylenol will start to dissolve, and work it’s way into your nerve and stop the pain. This is a very effective way to stop the pain, although once the pill dissolves it can leave a terrible taste in your mouth.

The best way to stop the pain is to visit the dentist and have it treated once and for all. Keep in mind that if the problem is an infection, you’ll need to use antibiotics until the infection is gone. Once the infection is gone, the dentist will be able to proceed with treatment. Most toothaches are the result of a cavity, which will need to be filled.

Anytime you start to experience a toothache you should get it treated. If you aren’t able to make it to the dentist, simply get some Ambesol or other product that will give you relief from the pain until you can get to the dentist and get the problem taken care of.

How to Eliminate Bad Habits

By: admin
Published: November 25th, 2009

The thought manifests as word; The word manifests as deed; The deed develops into habit; And habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care,And let it spring from loveBorn out of concern for all beings.

The Buddha

A cocaine addict, a working person raising a family, a seeker practicing meditation and service, and a highly conscious sage all have the same motivation: the core drive. We all want avoidance of suffering and permanent Love, peace, and safety. What separates us is our habits. Habits rule destiny. Our life is a sequence of habits that determine our course and evolution.

We all have a mix of good and bad habits. Bad habits cause untold suffering. Good habits serve us in the cause of our liberation. To understand how we got where we are and how to change direction, we need to understand the formation and transformation of habits. The seeker will need to release the energy captured by bad habits and transfer this power to liberating good habits.

Any pattern of thought or action repeated many times results in a habit with a corresponding neurosignature, or brain groove. The brain is composed of approximately 100 billion cells, called neurons. A brain groove is a series of interconnected neurons that carry the thought patterns of a particular habit. Attention feeds the habit. When we give our attention to a habit, we activate the brain groove, releasing the thoughts, desires, and actions related to that habit.

The good news is that the brain is malleable. We can change our thoughts and behavior by recruiting new cells to form new brain grooves. Every thought and action is recorded within the interconnected nerve cells, and each repetition adds new depth to the brain groove. If we repeat a thought and action enough times, a habit is formed. Continued repetition strengthens the power of the habit. Inattention and lack of repetition weakens the power of the habit. These principles apply to the formation of both good and bad habits. Positive thoughts and actions create good habits. Negative thoughts and actions create harmful habits.

We can use these principles to eliminate and replace bad habits with good ones. We can gradually starve bad habits to death by not giving them our attention. As we pay more attention to forming a good habit, the new brain groove slowly gains power. Eventually, the new positive brain groove dominates the negative groove, and good habits drive out the bad. Without this transformation, spiritual growth is impossible.

When we are assigned painful problems in the school of life, we need to do the homework. All too often, however, we play hooky by escaping into the pleasures of a bad habit. If we repeat this behavior, at some point we get addicted. We end up with the original problem and a host of additional difficulties associated with addiction. Addiction leads to wild emotions, mental storms, paranoia, rage, humiliation, chaotic relationships, job loss, disease, and death. We can avoid this by doing our homework, by learning how to be good pain managers. Learning how to manage our suffering is critical on the spiritual path. However, most of us slide down the path of bad habits early in our lives in our attempt to avoid pain.

Bad habits include smoking, use of drugs or alcohol, excessive eating, compulsive gambling, compulsive shopping, addiction to the internet, computer or television, addiction to sex, money, fame, work, activity, power, or dependency on others at the expense of independence and individuality (a condition known as codependency or relationship addiction). Although bad habits are pleasurable in the beginning, their eventual evolution into emptiness and torment is inevitable as they force us to act in ways contrary to our true nature. We want to express Love, compassion, kindness, patience, and courage.

To begin the process of transforming bad habits to spiritual power, we must recognize that the pain of the bad habit is worse than the pain of healing. Cultivating good habits is difficult, but it is more difficult to maintain bad habits.

There are hundreds of good physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual habits. These fall into three categories:

  1. Constructive activities related to health, work, relationships, recreation, or hobbies.

  2. The habits of a seeker: the spiritual methods described in this and other spiritual books.

  3. The habits of a sage: spiritual qualities such as Love, compassion, forgiveness, courage, strength, and others listed in the spiritualalphabet.

  • The time to create these positive habits is now. Every time we repeat a thought or action of a bad habit, it maintains or gains power.

Procrastination weakens our will to the point that we think we cannot change. Before we know it, the habit has locked us in a prison of our own making. We may not even know if a habit already has enough power to imprison us for decades: we only discover its power when one day we try to stop it and find out we cannot.

Assume a virtue if you have it not.Refrain tonight,And that shall lend a kind of easinessTo the next abstinence, the next more easy; For use almost can change the stamp of nature,And either lodge the devil or throw him outWith wondrous potency.

    Shakespeare, Hamlet

Following is a technique for replacing bad habits with good, spiritual habits:

    1. Introspection

    2. Avoid everything associated with the bad habit

    3. Affirmations and will

    4. Constructive meaningful activities

    5. The habits of a seeker

    6. The habits of a sage

    7. Support

    8. Solitude

    9. Perseverance

  • 10.Victory

    1. INTROSPECTION

Make a list of the habits you would like to change. Examples of bad habits include smoking, substance abuse, gambling, compulsive eating, addiction to sex, computers, money, power, work, and codependency or addiction to people.

    1. AVOID EVERYTHING ASSOCIATED WITH THE BAD HABIT

People, environment, routines, and our own thoughts are the breath that gives life to the brain groove of a bad habit. With continued stimulation, a bad habit grows, our will weakens, and we slide off the spiritual path. However, the neurocircuit for the bad habit remains dormant in the subconscious if we give it no thought or attention. We can gain power over a bad habit by avoiding exposure to everything associated with it. Stay away from the negative environment, people, and actions that supported the habit, until the new brain groove is strong. Avoid thinking about the bad habit as much as possible. We are subject to craving in an instant, if not careful. Even a passing thought or image of the negative habit can awaken desire. The more we let the idea play in our minds, the more at risk we are of recurrent addiction. Starve the bad habit to death by inattention.

    1. AFFIRMATIONS AND WILL

Review the lessons on affirmations and will to see how thought power and will power can erase even the deepest grooves of long standing habits. The mind has the key that can unlock the door of a bad habit, as a single thought or visual image can stimulate craving. We need to choose our thoughts carefully. Thoughts associated with our bad habits do pass through our consciousness against our will, however. To prevent these thoughts from becoming action, we must work against them. As soon as we become aware of the unwanted thought, we can knock it out with will and affirmations. We can invoke our will at full power, deploy our favorite affirmations, and turn to good and spiritual actions. These include constructive meaningful activities, the habits of a seeker, and the habits of a sage.

    1. ENGAGE IN CONSTRUCTIVE MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES

Make a list of activities related to your work, chores, relationships, leisure, recreation, hobbies, and self-nurturance. These activities are apart of your repertoire of positive habits. You can use these activities toward off the thoughts and impulses related to your bad habits. Such alist might include playing and watching sports, listening to or playing music, television, the Internet, movies, reading, writing, studying, exercise, arts and crafts, board games, crossword or jigsaw puzzles, gardening, paying bills, shopping, cooking, cleaning, taking a nap, getting a massage, and so on.

    1. CULTIVATE THE HABITS OF A SEEKER

The habits of a seeker include any spiritual technique that leads to the growth of spiritual qualities. For our purposes, these are affirmations, will, surrender, contemplation, breathwork, progressive muscle relaxation, meditation, mindfulness, practicing the presence of God, service, prayer, yoga, and the transformation of emotion.

    1. CULTIVATE THE HABITS OF A SAGE

The habits of a sage are the spiritual qualities listed in the spiritual alphabet. These include Love, compassion, understanding, forgiveness, courage, strength, endurance, peace, and joy.

If constructive meaningful activities, spiritual practice, and spiritual qualities keep the door of the bad habit locked, craving is kept at bay. We are safe. On the other hand, if despite our best efforts, the door of bad habits opens, the seductive music of craving may bring us to the brink of relapse. If this occurs, we must surround ourselves with people who will protect us from negative actions.

    1. SUPPORT

We need to surround ourselves with people who support our spiritual goals. Friends and family associated with our bad habits often try to pull us back. When we move forward, they take it personally. Moreover, we are afraid of finding new people. We must get throughthis fear to create a supportive network of people with like-minded goals who act as our spiritual bodyguards, protecting us from ourselves in moments of vulnerability.

    1. SOLITUDE

To heal completely, we need to practice discipline when we are alone. This is a tall order. Many of us are afraid to be alone and of the unknown. With continued practice, however, we will gain the necessary courage and self-control to resist craving even when we are alone. Then we do not need bodyguards. Eventually, craving ceases.

    1. PERSEVERANCE

Change is difficult. Some strong bad habits may take years to break. Tests, trials, and temptations come. Setbacks occur. Back and forth movement between old and new patterns is a natural part of the process. Do not give up. When you slip and fall, be sure to create the mental habit of gentleness with yourself, while using the remorse, regret, or disgust you may feel as an incentive to push you on to greater efforts.

    1. VICTORY

Keep feeding the positive habit to make it stronger and starving the negative habit to make it weaker. Give the best of your effort, concentration, and attention to the new habit until it takes over and becomes a natural, effortless, and automatic part of your repertoire. Keep battling and you will win. Craving ceases. Peace and strengthdeepen. Life becomes easier and more natural.

The ego, in its drive for immediate gratification, gets us into trouble with addiction and attachment. Not only do we lose pre-existing strength, but spiritual qualities cannot grow. On the other hand, our souls yearn for Love, and are willing to pay the price of work and patience. As we practice the methods of a seeker, we reinforce the neurocircuits containing spiritual qualities such as Love, compassion, understanding, strength, and courage, until these become unconditional habits. In the end, we realize our true spiritual identity by reconditioning our brain with soul qualities. We do not have to think about our practice. We express the habits of a sage, the Love qualities, automatically, naturally, and easily.

    POINTS TO REMEMBER

In the beginning of our spiritual work, it may be difficult to gettraction. We can gain momentum by setting reasonable goals, taking small steps, achieving modest successes, and building from there.

The next step in our spiritual development is in the immediate moments of our lives. However, when we do not like what is going on, we leap out of the moment and back into an unhealthy habit. We hypnotize and narcotize ourselves in order to avoid unpleasant feelings. Instead, choose constructive, meaningful activities and the spiritual methods of a seeker to develop the spiritual qualities of a sage.

Break bad habits of thought, attitude, emotion, desire, energy, and action so you can emerge from the past and find yourself renewed: fresh, spontaneous, and in the moment.

    AFFIRMATIONS

I can eliminate any bad habit.

I expand my will power through practice.

With my expanded will power, I escape from bad habits.

One by one, I eliminate all bad habits.

Nothing can stand in my way.

    Nothing can touch my will.

    Nothing can shake my resolve.

My will power grows stronger each day.

    My mind is set.

    Nothing can stop me.

    I will succeed.

Old friends who would have me indulge my bad habits are out.

With will and thought, I conquer every bad habit, one at a time.

I am not my bad habits. My true self is free to be warm, compassionate, loving, and kind.

I am stronger than any negative desire or temptation.

No matter how many times I fail, I will rise and conquer.

As I strengthen my body through physical exercise, I strengthen my will with mental exercise.

With will and thought, I cast out this bad habit from the neurocircuits in my brain.

With will and thought, I cultivate the habits of a sage: Love, peace of mind, compassion, and strength.

    EXERCISES

    1. Make a list of your good and bad habits. Which habits would you like to change now?

    2. What barriers keep you from changing your bad habits?

    3. Make a list of constructive, meaningful activities that you will use to avoid bad habits.

    4. What spiritual methods would you like to practice?

    5. What spiritual qualities would you like to develop?

    6. What will you do when craving for a destructive habit returns?

    7. Practice the ten steps for replacing bad habits with good and spiritual habits.

    8. Keep a log. Each day you can inspect the status of your habits. Give yourself credit for your successes. Recognize your slips, but do not dwell on the bad habit; this only reinforces the associated brain groove. Instead, cultivate the mental habit of being gentle with yourself while you focus on the good habits you are creating. In the next section, we will study five techniques that comprise a morning and evening spiritual program. These techniques are progressive muscle relaxation, breathwork, contemplation, meditation, and prayer.

Why Is Tooth Whitening So Popular?

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

Everywhere we look now we see people with bright, luminescent smiles and teeth. Rarely do we see anyone with yellow, discolored teeth on TV anymore. Some of the actors have smiles so white and bright that it looks fake and you know they had their teeth whitened.

The popular sitcom Friends even did a spoof on teeth whitening where one of the characters teeth were so white after treatment that they glowed in the dark like they were irradiated. So, what actually is tooth or dental whitening, how much does it cost, why is it so popular, and what kind of results can one expect?

Basically, tooth or dental whitening is a controlled oxygen bleaching of the tooth enamel. As any good dentist will tell you it works better on some than others and not everyone is a good candidate (kind of like with laser eye surgery). It will not work on any fake teeth like porcelain veneers, ceramic implants, etc. It only works on real teeth. The main ingredient is either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide which are both oxidizers and will bleach tooth enamel.

Over the counter kits and products generally have a low percentage of the main oxidizing ingredient (usually in the range of 2 to 6%). This is minimally effective at best. Dentists, plastic and oral surgeons will use a 30 to 35% solution and will add to this a high power blue or white plasma or laser light to hyper increase the oxidizing activity of the treatment.

The difference is that the over the counter kits and products may, after many treatments, whiten your teeth 1 to 2 shades whereas the in office treatments like Zoom (one of the most popular name brands for professional teeth whitening today) will in a hour or so whiten the teeth 8 to 14 shades. This is an enormous difference, but also there is a big price that comes with this in office whitening (usually $400 to $500 and most insurance companies do not cover this treatment).

Also, another thing to watch out for is many dentists are using the whitening to lure customers into unnecessary and expensive treatments above and beyond the whitening. Many people are finding that when they make the appointment for the whitening that the dentist tells them they need their remaining wisdom teeth removed, cavities treated even when there are none, and numerous other non routine requirements like deep cleaning requiring anesthesia for someone whom has no cavities or gum disease.

Numerous people have found that each dentist they see in some areas like Chicago, IL and Charlotte, NC gives them a different story and different requirements.

    Heal Angular Cheilitis Naturally

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

Angular Cheilitis (also spelled Angular Chelitis and also called Angular Stomatitis) is an inflamed lesion at the corner of the mouth. It often occurs in both corners of the mouth. In severe cases of Angular Cheilitis the lesions can bleed when the mouth is opened, and in some cases ulcers may form.

Although the root cause is unknown, Angular Cheilitis is a fungal infection that has been linked to nutritional deficiencies. Specifically, deficiencies in iron, riboflavin, zinc, or vitamin B-2. Angular Cheilitis is frequently seen in the elderly population who experience a loss of vertical dimension due to tooth loss, leading to an over closure of the mouth. Many people with dentures develop Angular Cheilitis because the angular alignment of the false teeth may not fit properly. This can lead to the mouth closing further than it should, creating small folds of skin in the corners of the mouth. These pockets of skin can become damp with saliva which can be the perfect environment for fungal bacteria to form.

The Angular Cheilitis fungal infection is caused by the same fungus that causes a yeast infection (Candida). Your doctor can test a culture of the affected area to see if you have the bacteria present. Your doctor may also do a blood test to see if you have an immune system deficiency.

Because it is a fungal infection, Angular Cheilitis should not be treated with lip balms or petroleum jellies, as these will increase the moisture levels and possibly cause the infection to spread. More appropriate treatments would include over the counter creams with antifungal and antibacterial properties.

    Serious Dental Emergencies: Pericoronitis

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

If your wisdom teeth are coming in, you may be experiencing the normal discomfort of a new tooth. But if you notice swollen, red, and painful back gums, or a bad taste, pus, or odor in your mouth, or even difficulty opening your mouth wide, you may be suffering from pericoronitis.

    What is Pericoronitis?

Pericoronitis is an inflammation of the gum tissues that cover the chewing surface of molars that have not fully come into the mouth. It most often occurs with the wisdom teeth, most commonly the lower wisdom teeth.

    What Causes Pericoronitis?

The most common cause of pericoronitis is food, bacteria, or plaque trapped beneath the gum flap. Here’s how it happens. Before a molar comes in, gum tissue completely covers the area, but the gum tissue is not attached to the top of the tooth underneath the gum. As the molar begins coming in through the gum, part of the tooth is exposed, but part of it remains covered by a flap of gum tissue. One way to envision this is to consider a blanket, tucked in at the sides and partially covering a bed, with the blanket standing in for the gum tissue and the top of the bed standing for the chewing surface of the tooth. Think how easy it is to slip your hand under the blanket. It’s just about that easy for bacteria and tiny particles of food to get trapped under the gum flap. However, it’s not easy to clean under the flap with a toothbrush, so infection and inflammation can quickly develop.

In some cases, the condition can be made worse when the upper molar comes through fully before the lower one. If the lower gum flap is inflamed and swollen with pericoronitis, the upper tooth may bite down on the lower gum flap, causing additional irritation and swelling.

    Treatment

It’s important to treat pericoronitis, not only because it’s painful, but because treatment can prevent a more serious infection from spreading to the neck and cheeks. First, your dentist need to make sure that pericoronitis is what’s causing your discomfort. To do that, your dentist will perform a thorough examination. The exam may include probing the gum around the affected tooth and taking x-rays.
If your dentist find pericoronitis, he or she will treat it by thoroughly removing plaque and bacteria from the affected tooth and rinsing around and under the gum flap. To prevent pericoronitis from reoccurring, your dentist may, depending on the circumstances, surgically remove or reshape the gum around the tooth or extract the tooth.

Your dentist will also advise you about taking care of the area at home. Homecare may include rinsing your mouth with warm salt water (about 1 Tbs. salt per glass of warm water) or an antimicrobial mouthwash. Your dentist may also suggest that you use an oral irrigator to soothe the area and help keep the area bacteria-free. In some cases, your dentist may also prescribe antibiotics.

Pericoronitis is painful and can lead to more serious problems, but be assured that it can be treated and your pain-free smile restored.

Poker Sit and Go Report: it is not a Bad Beat When you Have a Marginal Hand

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

“That was sick.” “What a bad beat, what were you thinking?” “You have got to be kidding me!” “This poker website wants the suckers to win.”

Does this sound like familiar prose that graces your poker table chat box? Sure it does. We have all been victims and yes, benefactors of bad beats. You could play more than a hundred hands an hour online so you are NOT going to avoid bad beats - on either end. I do find however, that many of my fellow players online actually use the bad beat excuse too often without really knowing what a bad beat really is.

Big slick is often involved in “bad beat” scenarios because it is the on hand that players push too hard with. It is even a bigger mistake to push early in a sit and go tournament with this hand. Myself I prefer to trap when I get a favorable flop, or use it against an over-aggressive player who thinks they are immune to losing.

Let’s say for example that you are early in a sit and go tournament and you have AK on the button. It is folded around, so you make a three times the big blind raise. The big blind calls after a short delay. Here is your flop. QJ9 rainbow. You want to maintain aggression so put out a bet of 150 into the pot which is now almost 350 chips. The big blind reraises you by betting 375 chips. The pot is now 725, a worthy chunk of fighting chips. The problem is you have nothing but possibilities.

Players find it difficult to lay down a hand like AK, and then to a flop like this, for most low level players, sadly this is a trap they will not escape. You may have heard me recommend in my sit and go poker videos to try and keep the pot small with marginal hands. When the pot escalates, you better be sure you have a big hand, because baby, you are going to the river with it now.

Now back to the hand in play. Winners will fold in this spot. There is potential, but you are still on a draw. Expensive draws should be avoided in the early stages of a tournament. Consistent losers however, will most likely reraise all-in with the overs and gut shot draw.

You get called and the big blind turns over Ace Ten! He was drawing too! You are actually ahead. Now you are hoping for baby cards to fill the last two streets. Turn brings an ace! You got him now and hold your breath for the river but alas, and 8 hits fifth street and the big blind dude who let it ride on a draw, hits his straight. So sick. What the heck was he thinking? What a bloody fool, idiot.

You have 45 chips left. That was the fourth hand of the sit and go tournament. Big blind idiot doubled up, all because you let it ride on a draw. So did he, but he hit his, while avoiding yours. Bad beat? Nope. Bad play by both players. You might be mad about this, but only yourself to blame. If you are going to let it ride early, you should be shooting for pair over pair making you about a 4 to 1 odds favorite. Otherwise, pick your spots, work the flop, work your opponent, but don’t complain about a bad beat, that was actually a bad play.

Should I get dentures or get all my cavities filled?

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

I am 27 and have over 16 cavities. Some will need root canals, and that seems like a lot of money to put into my teeth, when they might get cavities again. Am I better off getting dentures at my age or just getting all the dental work done?

You never want to loose your teeth if they can be saved. Even it costs money. It’s up to you whether you get cavities again. You have to put in the effort so you don’t get cavities again. Or if you do, they are small cavities and can be restored BEFORE they get so deep that they need root canal therapy.
Another important fact… after you have a root canal, you must have a post and core done; then have a crown (cap) put on the tooth to protect it from breaking.
    Good luck!

What would cause a dog to have bad breath?

    By: admin
    Published: November 20th, 2009

I have a chihuahua dog. He is 3 years old, and I have had him for one month. He has some serious bad breath. Any ideas on what the problem could be?

Dog bad breath is caused by bacteria on the top of the tongue, just like in humans. To cure bad breath, this bacteria must be clean off, just like in humans. I have witnessed a Vet clean the top of a dog’s tongue with OraBrush tongue cleaner to cure the dog’s bad breath. Dog bad breath can also be caused by plaque on the dog’s teeth which must also be cleaned off. This requires a visit to the Vet. Cleaning the tongue can be done at home. OraBrush was developed for humans, however, it can also be used for dog bad breath.
