Can anybody give an opinion as to the difference between full dentures vs. partials?
My husband is contemplating some major dental work and while partials arent the affordable method we’re not sure if having all teeth pulled and getting full dentures is the best idea.
If it is possible to save the teeth and have partial dentures, then this is the way he should go. It is always best to have at least some of your own teeth as opposed to removing all teeth and having full dentures.
But, he must maintain the health of these teeth by brushing, flossing and having regular cleanings.
Having full dentures is never the ideal option due to the fact that you lose more bone and eating, talking, etc are hindered by dentures.
I strongly suggest he keep the teeth the he can and get the partial dentures.

If even some of your teeth can be saved do not remove all of them for dentures. Once teeth are extracted the bone in the jaw resorbs, keeping some teeth in the jaw will prevent bone loss of the jaw. A partial, although burdensome because you have to remove it to clean it and the teeth around it and can get food caught under it at least it doesn’t cover so much tissue in the mouth like a denture does. You also can’t taste as well with a denture due to the size of it. It takes a lot of getting use to. But if the teeth are in really bad shape then go for the denture to start with. Check out some dental sites, a lot have web sites with tutorial information.
