How can I overcome my fear of the dentist?

I have a dentist appointment in the morning, and am so scared that I know I will be up all night just thinking about it.
This happens every time I need to go to the dentist and I don’t know what to do about it. Please no rude answers– this is a real question/concern that is really impacting my life.

I feel your pain. Really there’s not much you can do about the night before… make sure you’re good and tired, maybe take a sleeping pill. work on relaxation techniques, or distract yourself with TV or a movie until you can fall asleep. And I always book an AM appointment so I don’t have to try to eat beforehand and worst case, can just go home and take a nap afterwards.

If you’re anxious In the actual chair it has helped me to wear a ring on my finger I can concentrate on playing with while the hygienist is doing their thing. And try to avoid any of the sickly sweet types of fluoride… stick to mint! And try to remember you get through one visit you don’t have to go back for another whole year :)

try to think of what makes you afraid when you go there.

and remember that the dentist is a doctor, he’s only there to help you and your teeth.

and it might help to imagine the squeaky clean and refreshed feeling one gets after finishing up at the dentist.

i used to not like the dentist, but after my last visit, i just can’t wait to get back. i’m not sure why. i think i just want my teeth to be nice lol

Well….people are afraid of the dentist mainly because they do not get check ups every six months so that the dentist can detect any problems in the early stages. Therefore their problems grow into something that requires some type of dental work which = pain. So when people think of the dentist, they automatically associate it with pain. But if you take care of your teeth ie. brush daily, floss at least once a day (before bed) and get your scheduled cleanings every 6 months….you will not be afraid of the dentist because they will catch any probs before they happen.

you just gotta go crazy. blow chunks, and grow 3 sets of balls.

    1. for when you cry them off at the dentist
    2. for safe keepings
    and
    3. for when you get super drunk and take a lawn mower and chop them off
