I guess it could if there was an infection and someone didn't take medicine or get the tooth pulled..but most people see a dentist (because of the pain) before that happens

No. You can loose all of your teeth. The only way a person can die from cavities is from an infection that goes untreated. So it's not the cavities that causes death,but the infection that goes untreated over a period of time.

The only time a dental cavity can cause death is if the infection becomes severe and enters the blood stream, in which case it might spread to the vital organs. If you have not already talked to your doctor or dentist, do so right away–they should know if you need to be prescribed medication or otherwise treated to prevent the infection from spreading. Generally death is only a danger if a really severe infection is ignored; just talk to your dentist and make an appointment and you should be fine.

If untreated, caries can 'eat away' at the tooth, eventually getting to the pulp, or nerve, eventually leading to an abscess, which is an infection, that can get into your bloodstream…..
