Teeth Whitening Information on Teeth Whitening Procedures

By: admin
Published: October 27th, 2009

Teeth whitening is becoming more and more popular as it is increasingly felt that there is nothing more attractive than a pearly white smile. Why do we need teeth whitening? The answer is due to various reasons like smoking, drinking tea or coffee, food, aging, etc. our teeth get loses its natural whiteness and we need them to be restored. And, for a successful procedure you would need enough teeth whitening information.

Our tooth has two layers — enamel, the hard outer layer, and dentin, the inner layer. Enamel has a porous quality, therefore, the staining material which is getting collected over the years seep into the inner layer. These stains cannot be removed by simple brushing. They tend to make our teeth yellow and dull. That is why people go for teeth whitening using cosmetic dentistry procedures. It removes the stain from the inner layer without harming our teeth. It actually lightens the color of the teeth making them look whiter. Though teeth whitening is gaining popularity people are clueless about the procedures and products available in the market.

Teeth whitening information is essential before one decides to take a step in this direction. Since a large number of products related to teeth whitening is available in the market people get confused. What to buy, where to buy, which dentist to consult, and which product is most effective are some of the teeth whitening information people generally look for before deciding on teeth whitening.

There are three ways of collecting teeth whitening information. First is by asking the people you know who have gone through the process. Though we often tend to take advice from our friends, it is the most unreliable method. Our requirement may not be the same as theirsâ??. What the other person has gone through, most of the time, will not work for us. It may prove to be harmful, as we will not get an expert opinion.

The best way to collect teeth whitening information is to visit the clinic of a cosmetic dentist. The dentist will examine your teeth and the extent of damage in your teeth. He or she will be the right person to tell you if you actually need a teeth whitening or not. If you do then he or she will inform you about the option which suits you the best. The dentist will also tell you of the cost involved. You need not limit yourself to one dentist for the teeth whitening information. You can consult someone else to decide which dentist will suit your needs and your pocket.

The other source of teeth whitening information is of course the Internet. It contains huge amount of information related to this topic and any other procedures related to cosmetic dentistry. You have to enter the correct key words and you will surely get what you want. Teeth whitening information will be available under teeth whitening and cosmetic dentistry or other related topics.

Teeth whitening information prepares you for what to expect. We may be unaware of the implications of teeth whitening. There may be products available which are costly but ineffective. You need to put together all the possible information you can collect to go in for teeth whitening.

Veneers are the perfect way to treat discolored teeth. The veneers are also used for closing the gaps between the two front teeth matching the teeth color or for the repair of cracks and chips.

You will also find cosmetic dentistry articles on white filling which is the most popular substitute of amalgam fillings. The white filling materials ensure that your tooth has the perfect match of its natural shade. There are quite a few cosmetic dentistry articles on bridges as well. Bridges are great for those who do not prefer dentures or have just one or two missing teeth. The bridges are made of costly metal amalgamated to porcelain. Adhesive bridges are also available where drilling is not required to set the bridge. Such bridges are prepared with false tooth with wings made of metals on the either side. The wings fit with the either side of teeth with minimum drilling. A strong composite resin sets the bridges on previously roughened teeth.

In tooth implants titanium rods are surgically set into the jawbone which function as anchors to fasten the crowns or dentures.

Teeth whitening are cosmetic dentistry process that does not require removal of teeth surfaces. Professional bleaching is mostly used for whitening the teeth color. Power whitening or laser whitening is another method used for tooth whitening.

Treating Bad Breath

By: admin
Published: October 27th, 2009

Bad breath is a very common and embarrassing problem. It is one of those things that somehow do not fall under natural causes. It is also something that gives an impression of bad personal hygiene. People find it difficult to control their reaction to the bad breath of another person.

However there are a few simple steps that can be taken to counter bad breath effectively.

Scrape the tongue

The biggest reason for bad breath is the presence of bacteria on the tongue. If your tongue shows a white layer instead of a healthy pink then you can be sure that there is a bacteria problem. Use a soft toothbrush or a tongue scraper (you can find toothbrushes with tongue scrapers on the backside of the bristles). Scrape gently with plenty of rinsing to get that white layer off and rid yourself of oral bacteria.

Gargling

Once you have scraped off all the bacteria you should gargle using diluted hydrogen peroxide. Try to gargle for at least forty five seconds. Hydrogen peroxide creates a lot of foam, do not spit it out. The foam is essential for killing the bacteria. Note that it is not advisable to use hydrogen peroxide more than twice a day (and in diluted form only). To be careful use it every 3 days or twice a week. Hydrogen peroxide is corrosive and can eat into the enamel of your teeth.

Eat better

All foods undergo chemical reactions when they are being digested and they all emit some sort of gas in the process. These gases need to escape from your body and they can do so using various openings. Pores in the skin, flatulence, or through exhalation. What this means is that your mouth will mostly smell of what you eat. To overcome the smell of strong foods use countering elements like peppermint tea, Moroccan mint, jasmine, hibiscus, and lemon balm. When using any of these substances do not add sugar as it encourages the growth of bacteria. Also include fresh foods like ginger, parsley, cilantro, and scallion to your regular meals. Make certain that these additives are not cooked with the food but added separately in their raw state. When you eat them raw they help to maintain a balance in colon bacteria.

Colon cleansing

The colon is attached to the mouth although it is quite far away. If it is not properly cleansed then it makes an ideal place for bacteria to breed and cause bad breath. Bran is one edible substance that can help cleanse the colon. A clean colon can result in non-smelling gaseous emissions from all body openings. If necessary try a herbal laxative. Do not take over the counter drugs for bowel movements without consulting your doctor. When taken without real need, laxatives can weaken the colon.

Lastly, make sure you do not have a fungal infection. Even if you don’t think you have such an infection a simple home test can help you make certain. Spit into and empty glass or dish and leave this to set for a twenty-four hours. If, at the end of that period, you see a stringy substance left behind after water evaporation then it means a fungal infection.

Just take a few precautions and you do not have to put up with bad breath.

Home Teeth Whitening: Effective and Inexpensive

By: admin
Published: October 23rd, 2009

Everybody wishes to have a shinning bright and warm smile that will leave a permanent impression on the onlookersâ?? mind. People are born with the set of temporary milk teeth that are milky white in color, but this set of teeth fall off. A new set of permanent teeth arrives, which, during early years of life retain proper color. But for maintaining the color one should adopt either home teeth whitening or other cosmetic dentistry procedures.

As the person starts growing and the eating habits change their teeth start getting discolored. Junk foods, colas, red wines, alcohol, chocolates, coffee, cigarette, all contribute to the yellowing of the teeth. Foods and beverages have chemicals in them that cause harm to the teeth and gums. Therefore, to have shinning white teeth one must prevent and remove such unpleasant stains from the teeth with the help of cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic dentistry provides solutions for removing and reducing such stains. One such process is teeth whitening. Teeth whitening techniques are of two types, â??in-officeâ??, which are to be carried out in the dentistâ??s chamber and the others are â??at-homeâ?? or home teeth whitening, which can be done at home. Like it is said charity begins at home, proper dental care should begin at home with home teeth whitening products. If we are conscious about our eating habits and take regular care of our teeth then we can avoid visiting a dentist for cosmetic dentistry.

Using natural home teeth whitening substances to clean the stain on the teeth is a cheap and easy method than visiting a dentist. The processes are mostly harmless and safe, provided we choose the right home teeth whitening product. Using lemon juice and baking soda to brush their teeth are simple yet effective methods adopted widely for home teeth whitening.

Home teeth whitening can only brighten the color of teeth up to one or two shades and cosmetic dentistry carried out by a professional dentist can brighten teeth color up to eight shades. Therefore home teeth whitening processes are for people who do not suffer form acute discoloration and for people who are not obsessed to attain milky white teeth.

The most common, easiest, and cheapest way of home teeth whitening will be to use whitening toothpaste. However, they take longer time than cosmetic dentistry procedures. Taking a little help from the dentist and cosmetic dentistry products, one can go for home teeth whitening. One such process is â??brush on formulaâ??, where a teeth whitening gel is applied on teeth and to left to dry overnight. Teeth whitening strips are also available that can be used at home. You can also use peroxide bleaching gels which ensure better results.

Using the teeth whitening gels can have side effects. Pregnant and lactating women, children below sixteen, and people with weak and sensitive teeth and gum should not try these gels. The one who wishes to go for the process must consult the dentist as different gels may have different effects on individuals.

Losing a Tooth - The Domino Effect

By: admin
Published: October 23rd, 2009

What can you do if you are already missing one tooth? Do not leave it the way it is. It is not cost effective. Unfortunately, one single missing tooth can cause damage you won’t see or feel until it’s too late. For millions of people, one missing tooth has caused the needless loss of all their other teeth. Most people run to the dentist if they lose a front tooth, but make the mistake of ignoring their back teeth. They say, “I can’t see it; it doesn’t hurt; I’ll leave it alone.” And that is a bad idea. The absence of one tooth can trigger a domino effect that will eventually cause your entire mouth to crumble.

Mother Nature designed your teeth to work together, with each tooth performing a specific function. When a member of the group is lost, more work is required from the remaining teeth. The other teeth begin to shift toward the hole left by the missing tooth; teeth on either side will tilt into the space; the tooth above will grow down. Gaps open up; teeth shift; your smile changes for the worse.

Your bite is thrown off, almost always causing a destructive bite, which may lead to terrible headaches, intolerable jaw pain, broken teeth and teeth that wear down too quickly. Have you ever seen someone with short front teeth? Odds are good that’s the result of a destructive bite. Don’t let this happen to you.

The tooth that has grown down into the gap is now threatened by gum disease because of its awkward position. The space vacated by the former tooth creates a trap for food and bacteria that can be very difficult to clean. Periodontal disease may spread to the rest of the body, doubling your risk for heart disease and increasing the risks for a multitude of other ailments. Remember, this is the result of one missing tooth. Imagine what several missing teeth can do.

Crowns

Porcelain or metal crowns, also called “caps,” may be necessary when a tooth is chipped or cracked, and cannot support a filling. Occasionally, teeth that were filled when you were younger will weaken, and may need to be crowned later in life. A tooth that is cracked, or likely to crack, should be crowned as soon as possible. This will strengthen the tooth, make cleaning easier and prevent decay. Once the crown is cemented on the tooth, it acts as a protective cover, and may improve the tooth’s appearance.

Be aware many teeth exhibit natural fracture lines, which don’t always indicate impending trouble. A cracked tooth usually causes pain when you bite down or when it’s exposed to extremes of hot or cold. Although the pain may not be constant, schedule a visit to your dentist if you suspect the tooth is cracked. A powerful bite and a weakened tooth are a perfect combination for cracking or splitting that incisor, bicuspid or molar.

Combination porcelain and metal crowns are less expensive, but reveal black lines at the gums, which aren’t particularly attractive. For this reason, they are usually reserved for the back molars. All-porcelain crowns are cosmetically superior to the older models made by fusing porcelain to metal, and are perfect for the teeth you want to flash to the world. However, the new technology does cost a bit more. You can choose different crowns on different teeth to save money. Ask your dentist about all of your options.

Tooth Replacement

If fillings, crowns, inlays or a root canal are unable to save your tooth, then extraction is the alternative. Holding onto your natural teeth after they’ve been hopelessly diseased may lead to periodontal disease, which may eventually destroy your jaw bones. Please note it is possible to remove, and then completely restore the function of bad teeth without resorting to partial dentures. One option is a fixed bridge. The second alternative, which might be a better but often much more expensive choice, is to put technology to work in the form of modern dental implants. Unfortunately, not everyone is a good candidate for this procedure.

Fixed Bridges

As the name implies, a fixed bridge spans the gap between your missing teeth. The bridge is anchored from one healthy tooth to the next, and fills the void left by the missing tooth with an artificial tooth or teeth. Unlike full or partial dentures, fixed bridges are stationary, and don’t have to be removed at night.

Bridges can be more comfortable than dentures. A bridge doesn’t move when you chew, and anchors and supports your neighboring teeth, keeping them aligned. However, cleaning is often more problematic than with natural teeth or dentures. Yon may need a floss threader or irrigator to reach under the bridge to prevent plaque and bacteria build-up.

Whatever the current state of your teeth it is important for you to visit your dentist to see what needs to be done to bring your teeth up to a comfortable and healthy state.
