What does the dentist mean when he sends you to the periodontist to evaluate the lingual?

By: admin
Published: May 28th, 2009

Saw my dentist last night on my implants on 8/9. He is sending me in to the periodontist to check the lingual on teeth 7/8/9. What is that and is it more pain and long term or an easy fix?

He wants to check the bone density of your upper front teeth!
to see if the implant took, Did the bone regeneate around the implants?
The periodontist will possibly clean, scrape, underneath the gums or even reshape the gums around the implant areas!

with these procedures he will be using anesthesia and prescribe pain medication and or antibiotics too..

How common is a gag reflex with dentures?

By: admin
Published: May 28th, 2009

I read a horror story of a woman who got full dentures but she couldn't eat anything with her dentures because she got a gag reflex from the plastic that extends towards the back of the mouth. Is gag reflex with dentures rare? If you do get a gag reflex with dentures can it be overcome?

i totally disagree with the guy who said you cannot overcome a gag reflex. mine is terrible — but i've discovered that a lot of it is psychological.

i've had it bad my whole life — when i was a little girl, i actually threw up on my orthodontist once, when they were taking impressions of my teeth! but lately i've had a lot of issues with TMJ (my jaw pops) and i've needed to wear a night guard. while the dental assistant was taking my impressions, she was soooo nice and sweet. she did everything slowly, told me exactly what she was going to do before she did it, had me "breathe through your nose!" and i knew that if i needed to stop at any time, she would. not only did i survive the several minutes of impressions she took that day, i survived impressions for molds for tooth whitening (done similarly, by another lady), AND i'm able to sleep in a full mouth guard each night for my jaw problems. the mouth guard is a large piece of hard plastic that fits inside my mouth and covers ALL my lower teeth (so you can see that it goes far to the back!). i can't believe i've been able to do this — but with time and practice and positive thoughts, it gets easier and easier. honestly. i think you'll be fine. :) good luck!

I floss and brush my teeth at least twice a day but I can’t help getting bad breath in the morning. How can I avoid it?

use a strong 12 hour or 24 hour mouth wash before you go to bed to kill bad breath germs to help keep your breath fresh when you wake up in the morning.

I have a discoloured aching tooth & there is a cavity sort of thing s/o dental caries. What's the treatment

the tooth is dying my friend–you can save the tooth by having an apoectomy– that is where they drill into the tooths root canals and extract the dying nerves, stopping your pain, killing the tooth, then cleaning and filling the cavity–they will apply a cap to hide the discoloration–this process will give You a ridgid–intact tooth to chew with and improve your smile—later it may need to be removed, but for now get all the milage you can out of that bit of Organic Hardware!!!—Signer—JEM

what is the difference between DMFS, DMFT and deft dental caries index?

By: admin
Published: May 19th, 2009

I would like to know what exactly the DMFS, DMFT and deft dental caries index are and what is the differences between them.

DMFS: is a count of the number of: decayed, missing, filled tooth SURFACES in a persons mouth.
DMFT: is a count of the number of: decayed, missing, filled TEETH in a persons mouth.
deft: is a count of the number of decayed, extracted, filled TEETH in a persons mouth.

So each of the different indices counts either surfaces or teeth, present or absent.

How long for dentures to be made?

By: admin
Published: May 19th, 2009

Hi, does anyone know how long it takes to make full dentures (from the initial appointment with the dentist to fitting)? My mum needs dentures but is worried if she goes to the dentist now they wont' be ready before she goes on holiday in February.

If she still has teeth, she would need an appt for 1)exam/x-rays 2)Impressions for the lab to make the teeth then 3)extractions of all her teeth and deliver the dentures. It takes a lab 2-3 weeks to make the dentures once the impressions are taken.
If she already has dentures, it takes at least 3 visits: 1)impressions 2)wax tryins(with the new teeth set in wax) to make sure her bite is correct and she likes her new smile then 3)Delivery of her new teeth. Usually 1-2 wks between each visit.

What to do about bad breath and kissing?

By: admin
Published: May 19th, 2009

I tend to have really bad breath. The only thing that fixes it is mouthwash or one of those minty things that you squirt in your outh, but I can't exactly carry one around with me everywhere, but I can't exactly rinse my mouth out with mouthwash every time I think I'm going to kiss someone.

What should I do?

When you brush your teeth, make sure you brush your tongue thoroughly, that should be the root of your problems .. and carry around gum. it a good quick fix that people wont notice ..
